Forma Afirmativa
Presente: You are a good student?     → sujeito + verbo (am – are – is)*
Passado: They were enemies?                       → sujeito + verbo (was – were)
Futuro:            We will be friends forever?    → sujeito + will be
*No presente, o verbo TO BE pode ser abreviado com o pronome pessoal da seguinte forma: I am = I’m,   He is = He’s,   She is = She’s,    It is = It’s,   You are = You’re,   We are = We’re,   They are = They’re.

Forma Interrogativa
Presente: Are you a good student?     → verbo antes do sujeito
Passado: Were you sick?                               → verbo antes do sujeito
Futuro:            Will you be free tomorrow?   → apenas “will” antes do sujeito

Forma negativa
Presente: She is not my teacher.                     → to be + NOT*
Passado:          We weren’t enemies.              → to be + NOT*
Futuro:            I won’t be here tonight.          → will + NOT = won’t
*Atenção: podemos empregar o verbo TO BE na forma negativa, abreviado ou não. Porém, o verbo “am” não pode ser abreviado com “not”. Veja:
She is  not  my teacher.                   They are  not  good friends.                          I am not a good singer.
                æ = isn’t                                            æ = aren’t                                               æ = I’m not

We were not from the same class.                                         She was not at the party.

             æ = weren’t                                                                          æ = wasn’t
